PocketRadiologist ® Book Reviews:

"It is rare for a revolutionary idea to come to fruition in the medical publishing world.... [T]he authors have produced valuable, high quality books/PDAs, which have 'broken the mold' in radiology publications. I cannot think of a practicing neuroradiologist who would not find these to be useful or a resident or fellow who would not benefit from having this information 'at the ready.' I recommend these PocketRadiologist books and CDs in the highest possible terms."
-- Book review in the American Journal of Neuroradiology AJNR - April 24, 2003
(Head & Neck, Brain, and Spine)

"This is an excellent review of the important brain diagnoses. Great job with getting all important info in one small package. This is certainly one of the best general review books ever written for neuro. all radiology, neuro and neurosurgery departments should have a copy of this book around. and at a great price! much less than giant hardback books, that are harder to find relevent information quickly in!"

"This series is a very good idea. Get the top people in a radiology subspecialty (and Dr. Osborn is an outstanding author of neuroradiology text) to write a small pocketbook on the most common conditions seen. Perfect for the resident in almost any medical field, the beginning radiology resident, and of course, the medical student."

"This is an excellent pocket-sized reference book.... this book represents a reasonably priced easy-to-use pocket-sized reference book that is a valuable addition to the literature."
-- James V. Byrne in Neuroradiology 45: 410 - 2003

"Concluding, this compact book on the breast is of easy and immediate consultation, and its great value rests in the wealth of cases presented. Its place, rather than in a shelf of the library, is in the pocket of the lab-coat of any mammographer and of any resident in radiology and should be readily available to those specialists dedicated to the study and treatment of breast diseases."
Journal of Clinical Imaging 28 - 2004)

"The book promises to be a must for many trainee radiologists, particularly in the hectic and worrying run-up to postgraduate examinations. A few more senior practitioners may also find the revision of long forgotten facts very useful. All in all, I can recommend this book strongly for it seems to do exactly what it says on the cover!"
-S. R. Desai

"...this Pocketradiologist...is recommended to the junior residents and to the senior residents who are preparing for the Board of Radiology. And I must say also that the so-called veteran radiologist may find here the answer to a difficult diagnostic question."
-- Journal of Clinical Imaging - 2005
(ER-Trauma)

"The major strength of this book is not only its format, which makes it easy to read and suitable as a quick reference, but also its selection and brilliant presentation of the various gynecologic entities. The authors definitely succeeded in the difficult task of providing information "in a nutshell" without oversimplifying the facts. Although this book is not intended to be a complete review of gynecologic radiology, it is amazingly comprehensive."
-- American Journal of Radiology AJR - April 2005
(Gynecology)

"The images are excellent, and together with associated schematic drawings, allow easy recognition of the pathological problem."
-- Journal of Clinical Imaging - 2005
(Gynecology)

"This is an outstanding book. One of the best head and neck radiology books ever written. Great review book for neuro CAQ. Every radiology dept. should have a copy of this book. Spectacular review of top diagnoses and all relevent, pertinent info condensed into great package." Highest rating *****

"This book is a valuable study aide for residents. As a quick reference guide, it can be a helpful addition to any radiology department's library."

(Obstetrics)

This is a great book. Excellent images including detailed full color drawings. Gets you quickly up to speed on sPine imagining with the emphasis on MRI. Book is available in PDA and paperback format. I own both, but use the PDA version more often because also have the other pocket radiologist books on PDA eg. interventional, brain, head and neck and pediatric. The pocket interventional radiologist book has chapters on lumbar and cervical facet/epidural steroid injections as well as myelography, discography, vertebroplasty, needle control techniques, C1-2 puncture, SI joint blocks and spinal angiography."

"
There can be little doubt that the whole Pocket Radiologiste series, covering the gamut of radiology, is an admirable undertaking. The chest version of the series is no exception: two experts in the field have compiled (and somehow compressed into a mere 335 pages!) a bewildering array of facts. For those that are technically-minded, there is an accompanying CD, so that the entire contents of the PocketRadiologist®eseries, images and all, is forever at hand.

"The contents are logically arranged according to the 'compartments' or structures involved (i.e. airspace diseases, interstitial diseases, the mediastinum, the pleura, etc). Within each section the more common disease processes are covered. The key facts, imaging features and differential diagnoses are reviewed. The authors go further by discussing the pathology and salient clinical findings. Given the size and scope of the book, the radiological images are generally of very high quality, and where relevant, the text is peppered with rather elegant colour illustrations demonstrating the macroscopic pathology. Relevant references are also quoted.

"There is a proper mixture of CT and MR images, but it is the thirty-seven color drawings scattered among the 100 diagnoses that win the day.... The task now for Dr. Harnsberger and Dr. Osborn, the prime movers of this series of 'PocketRadiologist' books, is to devise a lab coat with multiple pockets to carry around all of these outstanding small books."
